VIBRANT, MODERN APARTMENT

Old San Juan, PR

Lulu Puras Studio presents an exciting apartment where resources and suppliers from the Lulu Puras store are used exclusively. This was a very fun project for our team. Even more so when we found out that the apartment was for two sisters in their early 20s.

The color yellow is trending, and one of the design decisions was to create contrast with a pale pink color for the rest of the walls and ceilings for the main spaces, offering a warm and feminine design in the space.

The apartment already had tiles, doors, kitchen, and bathroom finishes. We felt the structure was sophisticated, but at the same time, totally opposite to the look and feeling that we wanted to create. Lulu says: “It’s because of this that we decided to begin the design with a dramatic and fun message as you enter the space. We knew the entrance hall had to be WOW FACTOR in order to set the design language. We selected an intense yellow to create a block of color on the walls and ceiling. Another focal point is the 9 Void lamps from Tom Dixon. To complete the space, a big scale round mirror, so the girls could see themselves before leaving the apartment and take fun pictures.”

The main area is a big room that we divided into three spaces: a small living room at the entrance, to read, or hang out with friends, a family room to watch TV, and the dining area. We used the covering of the walls to create contrasts and a unique style for them. The hand-painted wallpaper in the living room, by designer Kelly Wearstler, was perfect to bring together the spaces and the feminine style throughout the main areas. Even though it is a bold space, we always design for longevity, using furniture with classic forms and designer lamps from brands such as Flos and Tom Dixon.

The seating area features the Bohemian chair from our exclusive line Moroso, designed by Patricia Urquiola. It is complemented by the Shuffle side table by &Tradition. The pink Roly Poly chairs by Driade are a classic, and are very practical since they can be used indoors or outdoors, perfect for this design. For the dining room the chairs were upholstered, defining the color scheme of the areas, which makes the space very distinctive and fun.
